Who is Eve Jeffers?

Eve Jihan Cooper is an American rapper, singer, and actress best known by her stage name Eve. She debuted in 1999 with Let There Be Eve…Ruff Ryders’ First Lady, which was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and peaked at number one on the Billboard 200, making her the third female rapper to achieve this achievement. The popular songs “What Ya Want,” “Love Is Blind,” and “Gotta Man” came from the album. She appeared on the songs “You Got Me” by The Roots and “Hot Boyz” by Missy Elliott, the latter of which reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 the same year. Eve was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of Jerry Jeffers, a supervisor of a chemical factory, and Julie Wilcher, a supervisor of a publishing firm.

Eve resided in West Philadelphia until she was thirteen years old, at which point her family relocated to Germantown.  She received her diploma from Philadelphia’s Martin Luther King High School. As Eve of Destruction in 1998, Eve had an appearance on the Bulworth soundtrack while working with Dr. Dre’s record company Aftermath Entertainment. She had an appearance on the songs “You Got Me” by The Roots and “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” by DMX, both from the albums It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot.

Eve is billed as Eve of Destruction and contributed backup vocals to the The Roots song “Ain’t Sayin’ Nothin’ New” from Things Fall Apart. In June 1999, Eve released her first song, “What Y’all Want,” which featured Nokio the N-Tity of Dru Hill. The song reached its highest point at number one on the Hot Rap Songs list and number 29 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Ryde or Die Vol. 1’s compilation album includes “What Ya’ll Want”.

Ruff Ryders Entertainment and Interscope Records released Let There Be Eve…Ruff Ryders’ First Lady, her first album, on September 14, 1999.In the first week, 213,000 copies were sold. According to SoundScan, the album has sold over 2 million copies and is Double Platinum. Singles from the album include “Gotta Man” and “Love Is Blind.”  Her 16-year-old closest friend’s relationship with a 35-year-old violent guy, with whom she got pregnant, served as the inspiration for the song “Love Is Blind,” which she wrote at that age.

The tracks on the CD were all created by Eve. Eve became the third female hip-hop performer to have an album peak at number one on the Billboard 200 list . Eve, Nas, Lil Mo, and Q-Tip were all featured on Missy Elliott’s song “Hot Boyz  in November 1999. The remix spent 18 weeks at the top of the Hot Rap Singles chart between December 4, 1999, and March 25, 2000, breaking the previous record for the longest weeks at number one on the US R&B chart.

On March 6, 2001, her second studio album, Scorpion, was made available. Jet magazine featured her on its cover and referred to her as the “Queen of Rap.”  “Who’s That Girl,” the album’s first song, peaked at number 47 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number six in the UK.  It also came in at number 97 on VH1’s list of the top 100 hip-hop songs. With Gwen Stefani of No Doubt, the second song, “Let Me Blow Ya Mind,” reached its highest point at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and first on the US Mainstream Top 40 chart.

It earned the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration Grammy Award in 2002, which was a brand-new category at the time. Robert Christgau polled several hundred music reviewers for his 2001 Pazz & Jop list, which ranked songs from one to seven.  The CD also included a remix of “Love Is Blind” with vocalist Faith Evans. The BET Award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist was given to Eve in 2001. [16] She participated on the game programme Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in November 2001, when she earned $32,000 for her charity.

She started working as a stripper when she was 18 and continued until rapper Mase persuaded her to quit. In an interview with Rolling Stone in 1999, Eve said about stripping “That was a hustle as well; my record, “Heaven Only Knows,” has a song about that. But I don’t regret anything since I was confused and went through personal issues at 18. I like doing it and did it for about a month. It assisted me in locating Eve and in becoming serious.

Many of those females had three or four children, which was distressing. “Eve, you don’t belong here; this is not your world,” I’d say as I sat there.” Eve’s initial love of music was singing. She participated in several choirs and even cofounded the all-female Dope Girl Posse  with a manager. This ensemble covered En Vogue and Color Me Badd songs. The manager of the group advised that they begin rapping, and Eve persisted. Eve started embarking on a solo career as “Eve of Destruction” after the band disbanded.
