Who is Michael Cera?

Michael Cera is a Canadian actor and musician. His full name is Michael Austin Cera. He is well-known for the uncomfortable and eccentric roles he has played in coming-of-age comedies, as well as for his role as George Michael Bluth in the television series Arrested Development. Cera was born in the year 1988 in the Canadian city of Brampton. He is the son of Linda and Luigi Cera, who worked in the field of technology.

His mother is of Irish, Dutch, Scottish, and English ancestry, and his Sicilian father is the patriarch of the family. Both of his parents had employment at Xerox at one point. Cera has two sisters: Jordan, who is her elder sister, and Molly, who is her younger sister. When he was three years old and suffering with chicken pox, he watched the movie Ghostbusters on repeat to pass the time. This is when he first got interested in acting.

Cera committed all of the conversation to memory and looked up to Bill Murray as a role model.  He signed up for improvisation workshops at The Second City in Toronto and attended those sessions.  His first assignment was a non-paying performance in a commercial for Tim Hortons’ summer camp program.  As a result of his looks, he was finally offered a part in a commercial for Pillsbury. In this advertisement, he got his first role with lines and poked the Pillsbury Doughboy.

In May of 2007, Michael Cera made an appearance in a staged comedy video in which he plays the role of an actor who is fired from the lead role in the film Knocked Up after insulting and arguing with the film’s director Judd Apatow. The scene is a parody of the blow up that occurred on the set of I Heart Huckabees involving David O. Russell.  Jonah Hill and Michael Cera co-starred in the adolescent comedy “Superbad,” which was produced by Judd Apatow.

The creators of the comedy, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, served as inspiration for their characters in the movie, who were two virginal adolescents who were ready to graduate from high school and whose party preparations went haywire.  In August of 2007, when Superbad was released in theaters, it reached number one at the box office for two consecutive weeks in the United States.

A reviewer for The Atlantic wrote that the film “belongs to Michael Cera” because he “captured teenage sexual abashment as indelibly as he did in the role of George Michael.” Cera’s performance was praised by the critics. He was commended as “outstanding” by the New York Times, while CNN lauded Cera and Hill for “playing off each other masterfully” in their performance.

Throughout the month of November in 2007, Michael Cera presented a live, staged version of Saturday Night Live; however, owing to the ongoing 2007 Writers Guild of America Strike, it was not televised. In Juno, which was Cera’s second film of 2007, he portrayed the role of Paulie Bleeker, a teenager who is responsible for the pregnancy of his lifelong school friend Juno. Cera plays the role of George Michael Bluth, the adolescent son of the character Michael Bluth, who is portrayed by Jason Bateman in the sitcom. The Bluth family was formerly quite rich but has fallen on hard times in recent years.

Despite widespread praise from reviewers, the television show was pulled off the air by Fox in 2006 after it had aired for a total of three seasons.  In 2006, Cera conceived of and acted in a film that satirized Aleksey Vayner’s “Impossible is Nothing,” a video resume that Vayner had produced.  In the episode “The Rapes of Graff” from the sixth season of the adolescent drama Veronica Mars, which aired in 2006, Michael Cera and Alia Shawkat, who played his co-star on the show Arrested Development, appeared as two college students.
