Who is Michael Chiklis?

Michael Chiklis is an American actor, television director, television producer, and musician. He was born on August 30, 1963, and his name is pronounced /tkls/. It was for his performance as Los Angeles Police Department  Detective Vic Mackey on the FX police drama The Shield that he was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2002. He was also nominated for the award in 2003. He is best known for this role.

Other starring television roles that he has played include Commissioner Tony Scali on the ABC police drama The Commish, Chris Woods in Daddio, Jim Powell on the ABC science-fiction comedy-drama No Ordinary Family, Vincent Savino in the CBS crime drama Vegas, Dell Toledo in American Horror Story: Freak Show, and Nathaniel Barnes in Gotham. He has also voiced the character of Alfred Pennyworth in the Batman animated series. In the film industry, he is most well-known for his roles as The Thing in two Fantastic Four films, George Callister in Eagle Eye, Terry Eidson in When the Game Stands Tall, and Father Dave in Hubie Halloween.

His career began in theater, where he played the title role in the play A Christmas Carol. Chiklis was born in the city of Lowell, which is located in Massachusetts. His mother, Katherine, works as an administrative assistant at a hospital, and his father, Charlie Chiklis, owns and operates a hair and beauty store. He is the son of two Greek immigrants.  It has been said that Chiklis got his acting skills from his mother, and this has been backed up by evidence.  His mother is of Greek and Irish origin, while his father is a second-generation Greek American and his father is Greek American.  Andover, Massachusetts is where Chiklis spent his formative years.

He was just 5 years old when he first started amusing his family by doing impressions of famous people. Chiklis began his acting career at a young age, performing in plays in regional theaters, and joined the Actors Equity Association when he was just 13 years old. In the ninth grade, he played the role of Hawkeye Pierce in the production of M*A*S*H that was put on at Andover High School.  He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Boston University College of Fine Arts in the United States.

Upon his graduation from college, Chiklis relocated to Brooklyn, New York, and auditioned for the part of John Belushi in the controversial film Wired. He was ultimately hired in the role. Chiklis’s portrayal of Belushi, one of his acting heroes, was singled out for acclaim despite the picture as a whole being slammed by critics and doing poorly at the box office.  In addition, he has appeared as a guest star on a number of well-known television shows, including Miami Vice, B.L. Stryker, Wiseguy, L.A. Law, Murphy Brown, and Seinfeld. He has also had small roles in films such as Nixon.

The Commish, a police comedy/drama that aired on ABC from 1991 to 1996, is widely regarded as Chiklis’ breakthrough performance in the entertainment industry. Chiklis portrayed the role of Anthony “Tony” J. Scali, the police commissioner of a medium-sized town located in the state of New York’s upstate region. Chiklis went on to appear in the NBC comedy Daddio, but the show was canceled after just a few seasons.

Chiklis took up the role of Rob Becker in the Broadway one-man play Defending the Caveman in 1997, beginning his tenure in the production in January 1997 and continuing until the show’s last performance in June 1997. He made his debut in the role of Thing in the film Fantastic Four in 2005, and he later played the character again in the sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. He was a huge admirer of the comic book series, and he always imagined himself portraying the part in the movie adaptation of Fantastic Four if one were ever made.

Chiklis’s performance in the movie, which received generally positive but also negative reviews overall, was singled out for particular appreciation. She was completely unprepared to see him like that, found it unsettling, and had to be taken off the set to calm herself. His wife surprised him by visiting him on location when he was shooting as The Thing, but she was unaware that he would be wearing his full bodysuit and makeup as the character.

Chiklis gives a performance as the Secretary of Defense of the United States of America in the film Eagle Eye.After the fallout from the Bernie Madoff affair, Chiklis is working on creating a series for FX on an investment scheme that is quite similar to the one that Madoff was involved in. The story, which goes by the name House of Cards, is about a group of people who pull off an enormous trick very much like the Madoff scheme. Since Chiklis and his wife had fallen prey to a Ponzi scheme themselves in February 2008, the two of them had been working on developing the project ever since. Cards will most likely revolve on the mastermind behind the scam, and Chiklis has plans to executive produce the show but not feature in it.

After that, Chiklis became a main cast member on the ABC television series No Ordinary Family, which debuted on September 28, 2010, as a part of the television season 2010–11, and ran until April 2011, when it was canceled. In addition, he had a recurring role in the CBS crime drama Vegas. It was revealed in March 2014 that Chiklis will be playing a role in the fourth season of the anthology series American Horror Story on FX, which is titled Freak Show.

Chiklis had a brief appearance in the last season of the FX series Sons of Anarchy in 2014, playing a supporting role. First seen in the episode “Rose Red,” in which he plays the role of a truck driver, he is the person at a truck stop when Gemma, who is on her way to see her father, meets him for the first time. In the last episode of the series, he also portrays a truck driver. He made an appearance on Gotham in 2015, playing the role of Captain Nathaniel Barnes.

Chiklis’ time spent on The Shield’s Strike Team inspired the name of his character’s new organization, which is also referred to as the “Strike Force.”INFLUENCE was Chiklis’s first album under his own name, and it was released in September of 2016. He penned the songs for the CD and produced it in his own own Extravaganza Music Studio.

Chiklis made the decision to transform his persona after starring as Curly Howard in the telefilm adaptation of The Three Stooges. He began a rigorous exercise routine and shaved his head over the course of the next six months with the assistance of his wife. When he showed up to the audition for The Shield, he did not appear at all like the chubby and affable character of The Commish.  Chiklis was able to convince the show’s creator, Shawn Ryan, that he should play the starring part of LAPD Detective Vic Mackey, the show’s anti-hero.

Because of his performance in the character, he was awarded the Emmy in 2002 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. In the same year, Chiklis was also honored with a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series–Drama for his work in the series. During the years of 2004 and 2005, he was up for a Golden Globe in the category of Best Actor in a Drama Series, but he did not end up taking home the award. Later on, Chiklis satirized his performance as Vic Mackey in the Robot Chicken episode titled “Monstourage.” The joke centered on the premise that Mackey would mistakenly trade places with Ben Grimm.

Since the year 2000, Chiklis has participated in a number of voice roles, including the part of Chihiro’s father, Akio, in the English dub of Spirited Away, which was directed by Hayao Miyazaki, and the part of Roman/King Webster in the direct-to-video feature The Adventures of Tom Thumb and Thumbelina. Both of these roles were performed by Chiklis. In addition, he has appeared as himself in many episodes of Family Guy and Heavy Gear: The Animated Series, both of which are animated series.
