Who is Dean Cain?

Dean George Tanaka was born on July 31, 1966, in Mount Clemens, Michigan. His family tree includes the United Kingdom, France, Wales, Ireland, and Japan. Grace E. Miyoko Sugiura, Dean’s paternal grandmother, was of Japanese and European heritage, while his paternal grandpa, John Megumi Tanaka, was of Japanese ancestry.

As a child, Dean looked up to his older brother, Roger. Later in life, Roger settled on a career in music. Dean never knew his father and later called him “an adulterous husband,” which is interesting. His father had previously informed the press that Dean’s mom had deserted the family when he was serving in Vietnam. Dean rebutted by saying that his father had actually cheated on his mother, rather than serving in the military.

Sharon actually moved to Los Angeles with both of her children, including Dean, shortly after he was born. It seems that back then, Sharon was eager to launch a career in show business. While Dean was still a young boy, Sharon wed film director Christopher Cain in 1969, and the couple eventually adopted both Dean and Dean’s younger brother.

Later, Sharon and Christopher relocated to Malibu, California, where they started a family with their daughter, Kristina Cain. Dean enrolled at Santa Monica High and quickly developed an appreciation for athletics. He and Charlie Sheen were teammates on the school baseball team. In addition to Rob and Chad Lowe, he went to the same high school.

The year Cain entered Princeton University after finishing high school was 1984. As a member of the Princeton football team, he played the position of free safety. His 12 interceptions in 1987 were a single-season school record for Princeton (in 10 games). After 30 games, he finished his college career with 22 interceptions.

His bachelor’s degree in history from that year was his first. His thesis topic as a senior was “The History and Development of the Functions of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.” After completing his degree, Dean Cain immediately signed a free-agent contract with the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League. However, he was unable to continue playing football after sustaining a knee injury during training camp.

As a result, Dean began to consider a career in screenplay before diving headfirst into the performing world. Earlier in 1984, with his father’s film The Stone Boy, Dean entered the film industry.

Additionally, he appeared in numerous advertisements, including a Frosted Flakes ad for Kellogg’s that featured a volleyball. Grapevine, Beverly Hills, 90210, and A Different World all featured him in guest appearances.

Dean’s career took off in 1993 when he was cast as Clark Kent/Superman in the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. In the series, he co-starred with Terri Hatcher (as Lois Lane), and the two were an enormous rating success. A total of four seasons were produced, with the final episode airing in 1997.

Dean started his production firm, Angry Dragon Entertainment, in 1998. Ripley’s Believe It or Not! on TBS Superstation is a production of the corporation. After that, he was in many movies, including The Broken Hearts Club, Out of Time, and Bailey’s Billion$. In 2002, he provided his voice for the role of Evann in the computer game Grandia Xtreme. He played Scott Peterson in the 2004 TV film The Perfect Husband: The Laci Peterson Story.

In Las Vegas, he played the role of Casey Manning. Additionally, Dean made his way back to the Superman canon by appearing in an episode of Smallville’s seventh season as a guest star.

A recurrent character (Jeremiah Danvers) of his appeared on Supergirl as well. Dean also played a pivotal part in an episode of the VH1 series Hit the Floor. In the show, he played Pete Davenport, the NBA team’s new head coach. On VH1’s countdown of the decade’s 40 sexiest men, he came in at number 33.

In the 2014 film God’s Not Dead, Dean portrayed a successful businessman. He had a cameo appearance in the 2016 season of Lady Dynamite on Netflix. In the show, he played Graham, Maria Bamford’s ex-boyfriend. In addition, Dean has been in 16 other holiday-themed movies.
