Who is Sarah Harding?

Sarah Harding was an English singer, model, and actor. She was born Sarah Nicole Hardman on November 17, 1981, and she passed away on September 5, 2021. Harding was given a spot in the girl group Girls Aloud as a result of her successful audition for the ITV reality program Popstars: The Rivals, which took place in 2002. This marked the beginning of her professional career. The band had a total of twenty top 10 singles in a row in the UK, four of which were number one singles, six albums that were certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry, two of which got to number one in the UK, and a total of five nominations for the BRIT Awards. Girls Aloud’s song “The Promise” took up the award for “Best Single” that year. Sarah Nicole Hardman gave birth to Harding on November 17, 1981, in the town of Ascot, in the county of Berkshire.

She completed her primary education at St. Cuthbert’s School in Egham in 1993. She was reared together with her two half brothers, and when she was 14, after the divorce of her parents, the family relocated to Stockport. As a result of her father’s relationship with a younger lady, Harding’s mother decided to alter her surname to Harding and cut all ties with her father. Between the years 1993 to 1998, she was a student at Hazel Grove High School. After graduating from there, she went on to Stockport College to study hair and beauty. After that, she worked as a member of the promotions team for two nightclubs located in The Grand Central Leisure Park in Stockport, as a waitress at Pizza Hut, as a van driver, as a debt collector, and as a BT telephone operator, among other jobs. To make ends meet, she also embarked on a tour of North West England, playing at venues such as pubs, social clubs, and trailer parks.

When she made the decision to try out for talent contests in the UK in 2002, she was in the middle of producing dance tunes. Both Fame Academy and Popstars: The Rivals invited her in for an audition. After getting accepted into the first round of Popstars, she decided to leave Fame Academy and pursue her career at Popstars instead, which is when she became famous. Additionally, Harding competed for the title of FHM’s High Street Honeys 2002, the national beauty contest held by the magazine. Her photographs were ranked in the top one hundred, but Harding removed them once she became successful on Popstars.

In 2002, Harding attempted to go on the reality television program Popstars: The Rivals by participating in an audition. The program, which was the second British series of the worldwide Popstars franchise, would see the formation of two competing bands, one boy band, and one female band, each of which would consist of five members. These bands would then fight against one another for the position of having the number one single on the UK Singles Chart over the holiday season of 2002. Thousands upon thousands of hopefuls presented themselves at auditions located all across the UK in the hope that they would be chosen.

The three judges, Pete Waterman, Louis Walsh, and Geri Halliwell, each selected 10 girls and ten guys to compete in the final round. After that, these finalists started taking part in live performances every Saturday night, rotating between the girls and the males every week. The competitor who received the fewest phone votes was removed from the competition each week until the final lineups of the groups were determined. On November 30, 2002, Harding became a member of the new female group Girls Aloud with Nadine Coyle, Cheryl Tweedy, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberley Walsh. The group was created via the program after a vote from the general audience.

The group’s first single, “Sound of the Underground,” became the most popular song in the United Kingdom during the holiday season of 2002 after reaching the highest position possible on the UK Singles Chart. Girls Aloud now hold the record for the quickest amount of time it took for a band to get from their inception to number one. In May of 2003, the band released their first studio album, titled Sound of the Underground, which debuted at number two on the charts and was eventually awarded platinum certification by the British Phonographic Industry later that same year.

They have achieved number one on the charts with the songs “I’ll Stand by You,” “Walk This Way,” and “The Promise.” Their greatest hits album, titled The Sound of Girls Aloud, and their album released in 2008, titled Out of Control, both debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart. The first of these two albums has sold over one million copies, while the latter has sold less than half of that amount. In addition, they have seven albums that have been certified gold or platinum, and they have been nominated for five Brit Awards, taking home the trophy for Best Single in 2009 for “The Promise.”

During the time that the band was on hiatus, Harding launched a career in acting. He had roles in the films Bad Day, Run for Your Wife, St. Trinian’s 2: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold, and the BBC television film Freefall. St. Trinian’s 2 has three of Harding’s solo songs, which he contributed to the soundtrack. In addition, she was a model for the lingerie brand Ultimo. Late in 2012, she participated in Girls Aloud’s reunion concert to mark the band’s ten-year milestone.

They made the announcement that they were no longer a couple early in 2013. 2015 was the year when Harding made her first appearance on the British soap series Coronation Street and also saw the release of her first extended play album titled Threads. After that, in 2017, she was crowned the winner of Celebrity Big Brother 20. Harding first disclosed in March 2021 that her health was terminal, after her announcement in August 2020 that she had been diagnosed with an advanced form of breast cancer. Her death occurred on September 5th, 2021, when she was 39 years old.
