Who is Pat Carroll ?

Patricia Ann Carroll, an American actress and comedian, was born on May 5, 1927. [2] She is best known for her role as Ursula in The Little Mermaid, as well as a long acting career that includes roles on CBS’s The Danny Thomas Show, ABC’s Laverne & Shirley, NBC’s ER, and other guest-starring and series-regular roles on American television, as well as voice acting in several cartoon series.

Carroll is a Tony Award nominee who has won Emmys, Drama Desk Awards, and Grammy Awards. Maurice Clifton Carroll and Kathryn Angela (née Meagher) Carroll were married on May 5, 1927, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Pat began acting in local performances when she was five years old, after her family moved to Los Angeles. After serving in the US Army as a civilian acting technician, she graduated from Immaculate Heart High School and went on to Catholic University of America.

Caroll made her acting debut in the 1948 picture Hometown Girl, as Lorelei Crawford. Carroll was a regular on the sitcom Make Room for Daddy from 1961 to 1964 and earned an Emmy Award for her role on Caesar’s Hour in 1956.

With June Allyson, she appeared as a guest star in the drama anthology series The DuPont Show. Carroll also appeared on The Red Buttons Show, The Danny Kaye Show, The Red Skelton Show, and The Carol Burnett Show in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.

In the 1965 production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical version of Cinderella, she co-starred as “Prunella,” one of the wicked stepsisters.Carroll’s one-woman show on Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein (by Marty Martin) received several major theatrical prizes in the late 1970s, and her recorded version won a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word, Documentary or Drama in 1980.

Carroll was cast as Lily, Shirley Feeney’s mother in the hit ABC situation comedy Laverne & Shirley’s episode “Mother Knows Worst” in early 1976.In the 1977 CBS situation comedy Busting Loose, she played Pearl Markowitz, mother of Adam Arkin’s character Lenny Markowitz.

In the 1980s, she played newspaper owner Hope Stinson on the syndicated The Ted Knight Show (the old Too Close for Comfort) during its final season in 1986, and Gussie Holt, Suzanne Somers’ lead character’s mother in the syndicated sitcom She’s the Sheriff (1987–1989).

Carroll has done a lot of voice-over work on animated shows like Scooby-Doo, Galaxy High, Foofur, and A Goofy Movie since the late 1980s. She played Katrina Stoneheart on TV’s Pound Puppies. She portrayed Jon’s fiery Grandmother in two Garfield TV specials (A Garfield Christmas and Garfield’s Thanksgiving).

In Hayao Miyazaki’s My Neighbor Totoro, she voiced Granny in the 2005 re-release.Carroll sung “Poor Unfortunate Souls” as Ursula the sea witch in Disney’s The Little Mermaid in 1989.Carroll has stated in interviews that the part is one of her favourites.

She has since appeared in numerous kinds of media, including the Kingdom Hearts video game series, the spinoff television series, the Disney+ series The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse[8], and various Disney theme park attractions and shows.

Carroll has also appeared on Celebrity Sweepstakes, You Don’t Say, To Tell the Truth, Match Game 73, Password, and I’ve Got a Secret, among other game shows. She has performed in various plays, including versions of Our Town and Sophocles’ Electra, and is a member of the Actors Studio.

She played Sir John Falstaff, a balding knight with beards, in Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor at the Folger Shakespeare Theatre in 1990. In his review of her performance in The New York Times, theatre reviewer Frank Rich stated, “Her performance is a triumph from beginning to end, and I believe it is especially bold and moving, with ramifications that extend beyond this specific production.

Ms. Carroll and Mr. Kahn assist to resurrect the idea that the appropriate actors can take on some of the great classic roles that have traditionally been denied to women and make them their own. To be fair, this isn’t a new debate; female Hamlets have been around for a long time.

But, unlike some other recent casting experiments, Ms. Carroll’s Falstaff exists to examine a character rather than simply serve as ideological window dressing for a gimmicky show. Carroll married Lee Karsian in 1955, and the couple had three children, including Tara Karsian, who is an actress.

In 1976, the couple divorced. Carroll was awarded an honorary doctorate from Siena College in Albany, New York, in 1991. Carroll is a devout Roman Catholic who claims that her religious beliefs influence her decision-making process.

Carroll sued Hanna-Barbera for breach of contract in 1963, alleging she had been hired and signed on to play Jane Jetson on The Jetsons; Morey Amsterdam, who claimed he had been cast as George, was also a plaintiff in the same suit.

Despite the fact that her contracts stated that she would be paid US$500 each episode and that she would be guaranteed twenty-four episodes (i.e., a full season) of labour, she only filmed one episode before being replaced.

According to multiple accounts, the adjustment was made due to a sponsorship dispute between Carroll’s Make Room for Daddy and another company.  By early 1965, the lawsuit was closed. Pat’s down-to-earth approach, chummy demeanour, and hearty, infectious laugh made her a popular guest on all the big talkfests and a welcome panellist on such game shows as “You Don’t Say,” “To Tell the Truth,” “I’ve Got a Secret,” and “Password,” according to Carroll in a 2013 interview.

She co-starred on TV in the delightful Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Cinderella (1965), starring Lesley Ann Warren as the princess-to-be. She went on to have recurring/regular parts on Too Close for Comfort (1980) [renamed “The Ted Knight Show” in 1986] and Suzanne Somers’ sitcom She’s the Sheriff in subsequent years (1987).

With six you get eggroll (1968) with Doris Day and The Brothers O’Toole (1973) with John Astin, the cropped-blond comedienne never made much of a mark in film as a character actress. With the award-winning one-woman show “Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein,” which she also produced and won several theatrical honours, including the Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards, her career received a tremendous boost in the late 1970s.

Audiences witnessed a budding serious actor in the making, a complete change from her normal comedic antics. She earned a Grammy for her recorded rendition of the performance in 1981, after touring for four years with the show. After thirty years, she returned to Broadway to perform in “Dancing in the End Zone” (1985).

Pat’s fans were taken aback when she decided to keep going in this direction. She started playing Shakespearean roles and received critical praise. She was awarded bookend Helen Hayes prizes for her portrayals of Sir John Falstaff in “The Merry Wives of Windsor” and the Nurse in “Romeo and Juliet.”

Volpone, Mother Courage (another Helen Hayes award), the Theater Manager in “Our Town,” and the Chorus in a Broadway version of “Electra” were among the many demanding stage roles she has played over the years.

She has played the Reverend Mother in several renditions of the crazy musical comedy “Nunsense,” proving that she is still interested in poking the funny bone on occasion. If that wasn’t enough, she’s also a director, having directed a musical adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland” for The Kennedy Center, as well as performances of “Private Lives” and “The Supporting Cast.” “.

Pat has been a popular voice actor on animated shows since the late 1980s, most notably for Disney as the sea witch Ursula in The Little Mermaid (1989) and various roles in A Goofy Movie (1995).

Despite the passing of the decade, the feisty character woman continues to lend her voice to a variety of Disney characters, as well as video games and special projects. Outside Sales (2006), Freedom Writers (2007), Nancy Drew (2007), Bridesmaids (2011), and BFFs (2011) are just a few of the older cinematic roles she has played (2014).

She recently appeared as Old Lady Crowley in the Disney TV animation movie Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure and made a brief appearance on the drama series ER (1994).
