Who is Melissa Benoist?

Born on October 4, 1988, Melissa Benoist is a Canadian actress. is an American actress, singer, and producer who was born in the United States. Her first significant role was as Marley Rose on the musical comedy-drama Glee, which aired on Fox and ran for five seasons. During the fifth season, she was a series regular. She gained significant recognition for her role as the titular character on the superhero series Supergirl, which aired on CBS and the CW, as well as for her work in other media associated with the Arrowverse brand. Benoist’s parents, Julie and Jim Benoist, both worked in the medical field, and that’s where he got his start. When she was thirteen years old, her parents had a divorce.

Her great-great-grandfather on her father’s side was of French ancestry. She has two sisters, Jessica, who is a writer, and Kristina, who is an ecological scientist. In addition, she has five half-siblings since her father remarried after their mother passed away. Following the divorce of her parents, she spent most of her childhood in the suburbs of Denver, Colorado, with her mother. She spent a significant portion of her youth in Colorado, where she was raised, visiting national parks and otherwise immersing herself in the natural world.

In May 2012, she went to the Roundabout Theatre Company in New York, where she auditioned for the musical comedy-drama series Glee. She sang a different song for each of her five auditions, including “Fidelity” by Regina Spektor, “King of Anything” by Sara Bareilles, a song by Colbie Caillat, and several pieces from musical theater. She did two screen tests in California in the month of July in front of the creator and writer of the series, Ryan Murphy, as well as the casting directors and executive producers. Throughout the fourth and fifth seasons of Glee, she played the role of Marley Rose.

Her debut as Marley Rose was in the pilot episode of the fourth season, which was titled “The New Rachel.” Due to the fact that the producers had been seeking Marley for a considerable amount of time, she began working the moment she found out she won the position. In the first episode of season 4, Benoist and Lea Michele sang a duet of “New York State of Mind” together. The performance was Benoist’s debut on the show. On the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles list, the cover of the song got as high as position number twenty-four.

In the opening of the 2013 Kids’ Choice Awards, both she and her co-star on Glee, Darren Criss, made an appearance with Josh Duhamel. In the same year, she was chosen to represent Coca-Cola’s new product, which was priced at P10 for 300 milliliters of Coke Mismo. They were transported to Manila, Philippines, in June 2013 in order to promote the product by endorsing it. While they were there, they went to many shopping malls and met with fans. In the early 2014 season of Glee, she, like a number of other performers, did not get a callback.

Midway through 2013, Benoist and Blake Jenner launched a campaign on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter to raise money for the development of their feature picture Billy Boy. The initiative was successful in reaching its target of $100,000. In Damien Chazelle’s 2014 indie drama film Whiplash,  in which Benoist performed the role of Nicole, the film took home the top honors at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. She was cast in the role of Marcia in the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ novel The Longest Ride in June 2014. She appeared in the movie Danny Collins, which was released in 2015.

She was cast in the role of Jamie, who worked as a desk receptionist at a hotel that was frequented by one of Jamie’s favorite rock artists of all time. In the same year, Benoist also had a role in the film Band of Robbers, which was a contemporary retelling of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Her character was named Becky Thatcher. In May 2015, it was revealed that Benoist will be taking over for Lily Collins and Nicola Peltz in the character of Lorelai in the upcoming film Low Riders. Collins and Peltz had been in discussions for the part prior to Benoist’s announcement. In August of the same year, she was cast in the main role of the drama feature film Oxford, which was produced by Screen Gems.

She began taking courses in jazz, ballet, and tap when she was three years old and continued until high school. When she was four years old, her aunt cast her in a church play that she was directing; after that experience, she started participating in community children’s theater in her hometown.

Benoist played anonymously at Disneyland in different medleys of musical tunes for three summers with the Academy of Theatre Arts, a musical theatre school she was attending at the time. The Academy of Theatre Arts is based in Littleton, Colorado, and is directed by Paul Dwyer and Alann Worley. Benoist was a teenager when she did this.

She appeared in a number of plays at the Town Hall Arts Center, which is a professional theater situated in the Denver metropolitan region. Some of the plays she was in were A Month in the Country, Cinderella, A Chorus Line, and Bye Bye Birdie. She chose to put on a performance of the play Evita with the other cast members in the venue that once housed the Country Dinner Playhouse rather than attending high school graduation festivities.

Benoist was recognized as one of Colorado’s five “Can’t-Miss Kids” by The Denver Post in the year 2006. She went to New York City after graduating from Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado, in 2007, with the intention of pursuing a career in musical theatre there. She began her education at Marymount Manhattan College in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre department; however, during her sophomore year, she decided to transfer her concentration to the theatre since she was so inspired by Russian plays from the 19th century.

She received her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts from Marymount Manhattan College in 2011, where she studied for four years. While she was still a student, she appeared as Rosalind in As You Like It at the Theresa Lang Theatre and Millie Dilmount in an urban off-off-Broadway production of Thoroughly Modern Millie. Both productions took place at the Theresa Lang Theatre.

Benoist has appeared in the movies Whiplash, a psychological drama; Danny Collins, a crime comedy; The Longest Ride, a romantic Western; Patriots Day; Lowriders; and Sun Dogs, a comedy drama. In the 2018 miniseries Waco, shown on the Paramount Network, she also played the role of the wife of the cult leader David Koresh. Benoist made her debut on Broadway in the character of Carole King in the jukebox musical Beautiful: The Carole King Musical in 2018. This was her first performance on stage.
