Laura Prepon is a well-known American actress who was born on March 7th, 1980. She became well-known because to her performance as Donna Pinciotti in the comedy That ’70s Show on Fox. In addition, she is famous for her role as Alex Vause in the comedy-drama series Orange Is the New Black, which airs on Netflix. Southlander, a low-budget indie drama, was Prepon’s first role in the film industry. Her previous works include the dramatic comedies Lay the Favorite and Come Early Morning, as well as the suspenseful thriller The Girl on the Train and the dramatic feature The Hero.

Watchung, New Jersey is where Prepon began her life.  She is the fifth and last child of Michael Prepon, an orthopedic surgeon, and her mother, Marjorie, a high school teacher and gourmet home cook. She is the youngest of the five children.  In 1993, at the age of 49, Prepon’s father passed away after heart surgery;  she was only 13 years old at the time. After finishing her high school education at Watchung Hills Regional High School until she was 15 years old, she went on to complete her training at the Complete Theatre Lab in New York City.

Her Jewish father was of Russian Jewish background, while her mother’s family history is mostly Irish Catholic. Her father was Jewish.  Her great-great-great-grandfather on her mother’s side was a general in the Union Army named Joseph Bradford Carr.  While in New York, Prepon participated in productions of plays such as “A Woman of Property” and “Ascension Day.”  In the year 1996, she attended Thomas’ Complete Theatre Studio where she studied theatre with acting instructor Caroline Thomas.  Sometime later, in September of 1997, she made her debut on an Internet-based soap opera called They Go On, which was conceived by Levi Strauss.

Modeling was not Prepon’s only occupation; she has also participated in photo assignments in Paris, Milan, and Brazil.  In contrast to the typically lighthearted characters she plays, in 2006, Prepon starred alongside Misha Collins in the psychological thriller Karla. The film was inspired by the true story of Paul Bernardo and his wife Karla Homolka, a Canadian couple who kidnapped, sexually abused, and ultimately murdered three young girls.  In the same year, she also served as an executive producer for the show E! Hollywood Hold’em.

In the ABC drama October Road, which made its premiere on March 15, 2007, Prepon played with Bryan Greenberg in the role of Hannah Daniels. Despite having great ratings and a grassroots movement by the program’s fandom to keep the show alive, ABC decided to cancel the show on May 12, 2008, and it has been off the air ever since. Once a Time was a dramatic short film that she appeared in during the month of April in 2007.

She also participated in the romantic comedy Romancing the Bride, which aired on Oxygen in 2005. She also provided the voice for Hayley Smith in the animated comedy American Dad! on Fox, and she did so in the show’s pilot episode that was never broadcast.  She had an appearance as Lauren, the long-lost sister of Mary Shannon, in the episode “A Frond in Need” of the mystery drama In Plain Sight, which aired on the USA Network.

On February 5, 2010, it was reported that Prepon had agreed to play a starring role in the pilot episode of Awkward Situations for Guys, which was produced by ABC.  In the episode titled “Sorry, Bro” from the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother, which aired in 2009, Prepon played the role of Karen. Karen was one of the girlfriends of Ted Mosby, who was played by Josh Radnor. She appeared in the episodes “The Front Porch” in 2009 and “Say Cheese” in 2010 and repeated her role in each of those episodes. She also had a guest appearance in the episode of the Fox medical drama House M.D. titled “Private Lives.”

At the Art Center College of Design, where she was a student, Prepon had been taking directing lessons. Abide with Me was a short film that she made. It was about a 10-year-old kid who “upon bearing witness to the death of his father, is struck silent.” Prepon has announced that she intends to turn Abide with Me into a full-length motion picture.

From 1998 through 2006, Prepon portrayed the role of Donna Pinciotti on the comedy That ’70s Show, which aired in Fox. Eric Forman made Donna his girlfriend, and she quickly became his next-door neighbor. When Grace departed the show, Randy Pearson, played by Josh Meyers, became Donna’s third love interest and was introduced in the eighth and final season of the series. While working on That ’70s Show, Prepon pursued her education in the film industry.

Slackers, a collegiate comedy released in 2002 and starring Prepon as one of the main characters, is about three best friends who are blackmailed for faking their way through college. Because of her work on That ’70s Show, she was considered for a Teen Choice Award nomination in the year 2002.

She made her debut in the film industry in 2001, when she appeared as Seven=Five, a young TV personality, in Southlander, a musical comedy-drama directed by Steve Hanft and co-starring Beck, Beth Orton, and Hank Williams III. Prepon’s work on the indie drama film The Pornographer: A Love Story was completed in the year 2004. The narrative of the movie centers on an actress and a director who have an unhealthy obsession with one another.

In 2002, Prepon was selected as one of the “102 Hottest Women in the World” by Stuff magazine, and in 2005, she was selected as one of the “Hot 100” by Maxim magazine. In the video game Halo 2, which was first made available to the public in 2004, Prepon had a brief vocal cameo appearance as a United Nations Space Command marine.

Her first major film role was in the 2004 film Lightning Bug, a dark drama starring Bret Harrison, Kevin Gage, and Ashley Laurence. It was her first film appearance.
