He costarred with Jennifer Lopez in the film Selena as Chris Pérez, and he played Medal of Honor recipient U.S. Marine John Basilone in Tom Hanks’ and Steven Spielberg’s The Pacific. He played Detective Antonio Dawson in NBC’s Chicago P.D. and Paul Falsone in NBC’s Homicide: Life on the Street, respectively, on television. Seda was reared in Clifton, New Jersey, and was born to Puerto Rican parents in Manhattan. Seda started working out in a gym after graduating from Clifton High School after being persuaded to learn boxing by two buddies.

In the boxing movie Gladiator , Seda made his acting debut as the Cuban boxer Romano. Since then, he has contributed to numerous movies and TV shows. Seda, who starred alongside Rita Moreno and Lauren Velez in the 1994 film I Like It Like That, was nominated for Best Male Lead at the 1995 Spirit Awards.

He was nominated in 1996 for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for his portrayal of Blue in the movie The Sunchaser, which he co-starred in with Woody Harrelson.  Seda has made over twenty film and television appearances, including his role as Roberto in Bad Boys. In addition to Homicide, he has had major appearances in Oz, Third Watch, Matty Caffey, House, CSI: Miami, and Paul Falsone. His portrayal of Marine John Basilone is one of the three leads in the March 14, 2010, release of the HBO World War Two miniseries The Pacific.

Seda made a guest appearance on an episode of Burn Notice[11] and, in 2007, he played an abusive, intoxicated stepfather in Ludacris’ song “Runaway Love.” Seda started playing Detective Antonio Dawson in Dick Wolf’s Chicago franchise in 2012; he first appeared in the recurring character in Chicago Fire and then joined the main cast of the spin-off Chicago P.D. in 2014. Once Chicago Justice was cancelled, it was revealed in July 2017 that Seda will rejoin Chicago P.D.  Seda abruptly left the series after six seasons after receiving word from NBC/Wolf Entertainment that his contract would not be renewed on April 19, 2019, according to reports.

In the pilot episode of David Appelbaum’s NBC post-apocalyptic drama series La Brea in 2020, Dr. Benjamine Glass was portrayed by Seda.
