Who is Jim Cummings?

Johnathan James Cummings  An American voice actor . He has played around 400 different parts since he started his career in the 1980s. In addition to serving as the official voice of Winnie the Pooh since 1988, Tigger since 1989, the Tasmanian Devil since 1991, and Pete since 1992, Cummings has frequently collaborated with The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Other notable appearances include Fat Cat and Monterey Jack on Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Dr.

Robotnik on Sonic the Hedgehog, Kaa on Jungle Cubs , and Cat on CatDog. Cummings, who was raised in Youngstown, Ohio, moved to New Orleans where he worked as a river boat deck crew, built and painted Mardi Gras floats, and sang and played drums in the popular rock group Fusion.  He attended Ursuline High School, where he received his diploma in 1970, as well as Immaculate Conception and St. Columba elementary schools.  Lionel the Lion and Aunt Fira were Cummings’s first vocal roles in Dumbo’s Circus.

When Cummings took over for Sterling Holloway as Winnie the Pooh’s voice at Disney in 1988, it was some of his first vocal work. Prior to replacing Paul Winchell as Tigger in 2000’s The Tigger Movie, he served as the character’s understudy. He began portraying Taz in various Looney Tunes media after being hired by Warner Bros. Animation to voice the character on the animated series Taz-Mania in 1991. Cummings and Stephanie Jardon, his ex-wife, have two daughters. They were married from 2001 to 2011, at which point they got a divorce; in 2019, they got into a contentious custody battle.  In addition, Cummings has two older daughters from a prior union.

A. A. Milne wrote a children’s book about a youngster who brought his stuffed animals to life and played with them in the Hundred Acre Wood in 1926 with the assistance of E. H. Shepard. The concept was inspired by Christopher Robin Milne, his son, who had a deep affection for his own stuffed animals. The title bear, Winnie-the-Pooh, was the one animal in the book that Christopher Robin liked the most, just like Milne’s own kid. After the book’s fast popularity, Milne and Shepard began work on the sequel, The House at Pooh Corner, which was published in 1928. From the 1930s until the 1950s, Winnie the Pooh enjoyed enormous popularity thanks to his toys, radio programmes, stage performances, board games, etc.

After that, in 1961, the rights to Winnie-the-Pooh were sold to Walt Disney Productions, who would own these rights exclusively until January 1, 2022, when the character in the United States would become part of the public domain. Particularly, many of the movies have endured and continue to hold a particular place in the hearts of those who grew up watching them. The floodgates have been opened for anyone to use these characters whatever they choose since the original book entered the public domain, such as the forthcoming slasher version Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey.

Whether you’re looking forward to the movie or not, the fact that anyone can now make a Winnie-the-Pooh movie means that we’ll be seeing a lot more scary parodies and money grabs in the future. Consequently, let’s concentrate on recalling a few of the amazing, animated movies that Disney has created about that stupid old bear rather than allowing the ending of a low-budget slasher cloud our memory.

When The Lion King’s Scar voice actor Jeremy Irons experienced vocal difficulties during the recording of the song “Be Prepared,” Cummings took over for the rest of the song and also provided the voice for Ed the hyena. In The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, he also provided the voice of Scar during a brief nightmare scenario. Later, Cummings would be employed as Russell Means’ singing stand-in in Pocahontas, Kekata’s spoken voice in the same film, and Grigori Rasputin’s singing voice in Anastasia. From 1993 through 2006, he provided the voice of Smokey Bear for a number of advertising, promos, and commercials.

He portrayed Winnie the Pooh and Tigger in the live-action Disney picture Christopher Robin in 2018, making him the first voice actor from the world of animation to do so. Richard Lawson of Vanity Fair gave him special acclaim for his portrayal of Pooh, calling it “Oscar-worthy” and stating that “[a]s Winnie the Pooh… the seasoned voice actor gives the melancholy bear of literary renown such beautiful, rumpled, amiable life that it routinely tears the heart.” His voice acting career began in late 1984 when he got married, relocated to Anaheim, California, and began managing a video store in the early 1980s.
