Who is Jessica Sutta?

Jessica Sutta, formerly known as J Sutta and born on May 15, 1982, is an American actress, singer, and dancer. She is best known for having been a former member of the Pussycat Dolls, an American girl band. Jessica Lynn Sutta was born in Miami, Florida, into an Irish, Russian, and Polish Catholic and Jewish family. She began taking dance courses when she was three years old, and when she was fourteen years old, she went to the New World School of the Arts and Miami City Ballet to advance her dance training. Sutta thought her dance career was gone when she tore her ACL on both knees at the age of 17.

She then switched to theatre. Sutta saw that as a professional setback because her ultimate objective was to move to New York City and pursue a career as a ballerina, but she also saw it as a chance to ” her journey into new types of art.” Sutta’s knees eventually recovered thanks to rehabilitation, and in 1999 she joined the Miami Heat cheerleaders of the NBA, eventually rising to the position of captain.  During this time, she also began acting. She played a supporting role in Larry Clark’s 2001 film Bully, and the following year, she was chosen to be a series regular on Ocean Avenue, where she played Jody, a “pill-popping, out-of-control teenager” from a wealthy Miami family.

Sutta travelled to Los Angeles in 2003, when she met choreographer and Pussycat Dolls creator Robin Antin while working as a dancer for Smokey Bear in a PSA. Sutta was compared to Antin, who then invited her to join the burlesque ensemble. At The Viper Room, she joined the Dolls towards the end of their burlesque performance. In order to turn the Pussycat Dolls into a brand and form a separate recording group, Jimmy Iovine of Interscope Geffen A&M Records and Antin entered into a joint venture during this time. Sutta, Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, and Kimberly Wyatt made up the final line-up after a number of adjustments.

Their debut single, “Don’t Cha,” was released in April 2005. It became a worldwide hit and peaked at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100.  Their debut album, PCD, was released in September 2005 to critical and financial acclaim. As of September 2008, more than seven million copies of PCD had been sold worldwide.  The singles that came next, “Stickwitu,” “Beep,” and “Buttons,” made PCD the most successful new act in New Zealand chart history. First, at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards, Sutta received a nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

Sutta’s first solo endeavours were appearances on the 2007 albums “Make It Last” by Dave Audé and “White Lies” by Paul van Dyk. Sutta became the first member to have a number-one single as a solo artist in the US and one of the rare musicians to have two concurrent top-ten singles when both tracks debuted at number one on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart. The latter song also had some popularity in Europe.

Prior to the release of their second studio album, Doll Domination, Bachar left the band. The album, which was released in September 2008, reached its greatest peak position on the US Billboard 200, however it is regarded as a commercial failure because it sold fewer than 400,000 copies there.  The tracks “When I Grow Up” and “I Hate This Part” from Doll Domination made it to the top twenty of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.  The group’s second headlining concert tour, the Doll Domination Tour, which began in January 2009 and featured visits in Europe, Oceania, and Asia and brought in over $14 million, featured stops for the group.

As a result of Sutta and other band members’ dissatisfaction with the record company’s choice to credit Scherzinger as a featured artist on “Jai Ho,” tensions between the members of the group began to rise. [26] Subsequently, the singer injured his back during the first Sydney performance, forcing the band to play the remaining dates as a quartet. Sutta’s departure from the band was influenced by both the injury and Scherzinger’s overemphasis as the lead singer.  Living in “the shadow of wasn’t a nice experience,” according to Sutta  who also said that her broken rib “pushed [her] over the edge” and affected her choice to leave the group.

Sutta, who was born and reared in Miami, Florida, showed an early interest in dancing and later rose to the position of captain of the Miami Heat cheerleading squad. After dabbling in acting, Sutta relocated to Los Angeles in 2003 and started dancing with the Pussycat Dolls, a burlesque group. Sutta was a part of the group’s shift to being a recording act and released the albums PC and Doll Domination, which led to Sutta being nominated for a Grammy Award and turning them into one of the all-time best-selling female groups in the history of the globe. “Show Me,” Sutta’s debut single, peaked at number one on the American Billboard Dance Club Songs list. I Say Yes, her first solo studio album, was released on March 3, 2017. Sutta’s reunion with the Pussycat Dolls and her participation in their 2020 reunion tour, dubbed The Pussycat Dolls Tour, were both announced in November 2019.
