Oliver James Cromwell An American actor and activist is. Babe, Star Trek: First Contact, L.A. Terry, a tennis coach, was played by Cromwell in The Rockford Files in a 1974 episode. This was his debut appearance on television.

A few weeks later, he started playing Stretch Cunningham in an ongoing episode of All in the Family. He played Bill Lewis in the short-lived television series Hot steamy Baltimore in 1975, and he made an appearance on M*A*S*H as Captain Leo Bardonaro in the episode “Last Laugh.” He appeared in Neil Simon’s iconic detective satire Murder by Death the next year, marking his acting debut. Four episodes of Barney Miller featured four different roles that Cromwell played.

He played Detective Lannigan in the 1977 Three’s Company episode “Chrissy’s Night Out.” In the television movie RKO 281, Cromwell played newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, for which he was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Television Movie. He was nominated for another Emmy the following year for his performance as Bishop Lionel Stewart on the NBC medical drama series ER. In the 2004 The West Wing episode “The Stormy Present,” he made a guest appearance as former President D.

Wire Newman. Cromwell received his third Emmy Award nomination in 2003 for his role as George Sibley in the HBO drama series Six Feet Under, which ran from 2003 to 2005. He and the rest of his cast mates were nominated for two Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2005 and 2006 for Best Ensemble in a Drama Series. The Queen, which won Helen Mirren the Academy Award for Best Actress the following year, featured Cromwell as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. In the sixth season of the Fox thriller drama series 24, he also appeared as Phillip Bauer, the father of the main character Jack.

As part of the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival’s 50th Anniversary, Cromwell played James Tyrone Sr. in the Druid Theatre Company’s production of Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night at the Gaiety in Dublin in October 2007. He was honoured with the King Vidor Memorial Award for his contributions to filmmaking by the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival in the same year.

In Oliver Stone’s 2008 film W, which charts the rise to power of Bush’s son up until the 2003 war of Iraq, Cromwell portrays George H. W. Bush.  In the Disney film Big Hero 6, Cromwell also provided the voice of Professor Robert Callaghan/Yokai, the major antagonist.Alongside Jude Law and Diane Keaton, Cromwell participated in the HBO series The Young Pope in 2016.

In Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron from DreamWorks, he also provided the Colonel’s voice.

Cromwell has received nominations for four Screen Actors Guild Awards, five Primetime Emmy Awards, and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Babe. For his work in American Horror Story: Asylum, he received a Primetime Emmy Award, and for his performance in Still Mine, he received a Canadian Screen Award for Best Actor.
