Who is Jaime King?

Jaime King is an American actress and model who was born on April 23, 1979. Because another Jaime—the older, back then-more well-known model Jaime Rishar—was already represented by her agency, King adopted the aliases Jamie King and James King in her modelling career and early film roles.  King was born on April 23, 1979, in the Omaha suburbs, Nebraska. She is the daughter of Robert King and Nancy King, a former beauty queen. She has a younger brother Robert, a younger sister Barry, and an elder sister Sandi.

King was given the name in honour of Jaime Sommers, a character played by Lindsay Wagner on the 1970s television programme The Bionic Woman. King’s parents divorced in 1994. King attended the modelling academy Nancy Bounds’ Studios and left Westside High School in 1995 to pursue a modelling career in New York City. Later, she registered for a University of Nebraska home study course.  At the age of 14, King was found in November 1993 while a student at Nancy Bounds’ Studios. King was invited to New York City to start modelling professionally after Michael Flutie, a model agent, spotted her during her graduation fashion show. She joined Company Management, a more seasoned model represented by Jaime Rishar.

King decided to stick with her childhood nickname, James, throughout her modelling career and then at the start of her film career in order to avoid any misunderstandings. She visited New York in March 1994 for test shoots and received positive feedback; nevertheless, she did not return until July 1994, following the publication of a successful advertisement for Abercrombie & Fitch. I commuted between Omaha and New York for a large portion of the fall and spring of 1994.

With her portrayal as a nurse named Betty Bayer in the World War II epic romance Pearl Harbor, King made her debut in a major Hollywood production. King “had a spirited minute or two” in the movie, but according to Rolling Stone magazine’s Peter Travers, her role is brief and the “young cast is all pinup packaging.” King later appeared in the “Wish You Were Here” music video by Incubus.  King received the “New Stylemaker” award at the Young Hollywood Awards for the roles she played in 2001.

She made appearances as Angela Patton in the adolescent comedy Slackers, Sam in the drama Four Faces of God, and Baby in the crime comedy Lone Star State of Mind in 2002. While Four Faces of God and Lone Star State of Mind did not have widespread theatrical releases, Slackers garnered bad reviews from critics, one of whom stated that the characters “are not so breathtakingly original as to raise the lazy material”. Alongside Chow Yun-fat and Seann William Scott, King appeared in the 2003 movie Bulletproof Monk, which was based on a Michael Avon Oeming comic book.

She was selected for the role of Jade, a martial arts expert, after five auditions, a screen test, and a physical examination. King played the leading man in his first action movie. The battle scenes in Bulletproof Monk were not as professionally coordinated or directed as those in other genre movies, according to critics, and the abrupt transitions between comic and action sequences were unsettling.  Nevertheless, Bulletproof Monk received a nomination for a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie in a Drama/Action Adventure. King had an appearance in the Robbie Williams song “Sexed Up” music video and on the single’s cover art in late 2003.

She portrayed Heather Vandergeld in the 2004 comedy White Chicks, a satire on socialites Paris and Nicky Hilton, with actress Brittany Daniel playing Megan Vandergeld. The movie White Chicks received poor reviews from reviewers and was nominated for five Razzie Awards in the worst actress, worst director, worst picture, worst screen couple, and worst screenplay categories. However, at the BET Comedy Awards, White Chicks took home the prizes for Outstanding Directing for a Box Office Film and Outstanding Writing for a Box Office Film.

King enjoyed an early career as a prominent fashion model, and by the age of 15, she had appeared in Vogue, Mademoiselle, Allure, and Seventeen. King first appeared in Harper’s Bazaar and Glamour at the age of sixteen. She appeared on the front cover of the February 4, 1996, issue of the New York Times Magazine and has walked the catwalk for Chanel, Alexander McQueen, and Christian Dior. In 1998, she and fellow model-turned-actress Rebecca Romijn started anchoring MTV’s House of Style fashion show together. King said that despite her success, she “remember the periods where I felt so alone” and believed she “wasn’t going to be able to be a kid” again.

King, Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, and Eva Mendes were all selected as spokesmodels for a high-profile Revlon ad campaign in 2004. The advertising, which relied on the spokeswomen’s “collective star power” to promote the cosmetics items, appeared in print, television, theatrical, outdoor, and online venues.  King was selected by Rocawear CEO Jay-Z in 2006 to take on the role of the brand’s new face; her advertising debuted for the winter 2006–07 season.

King, a successful model who debuted in Vogue, Mademoiselle, and Harper’s Bazaar among other fashion publications, was discovered at the age of 14 in 1993. She began appearing in tiny cinema parts starting in 1998. Her first significant film role was in Pearl Harbor, and Bulletproof Monk was her first leading role. She then made appearances in various motion pictures, such as Sin City and My Bloody Valentine 3D, and she also acted in the television series Hart of Dixie from 2011 to 2015. She played the lead in the Hallmark film The Mistletoe Promise in 2016. On Star Wars: The Clone Wars, she also provided the voice for Aurra Sing.
