Who is J.B. Smoove?

Jerry Angelo Brooks J. B. Smoove is a stage name used by an American actor, comedian, and writer who was born on December 16, 1965. He is commonly known by his stage name J. B. Smoove. After making his debut on Def Comedy Jam in 1995, he went on to become a writer and performer on NBC’s Saturday Night Live for a number of year. His most prominent roles to date have been on the sitcoms The Millers  and Curb Your Enthusiasm. In addition to that, he played a fictionalised version of himself on the improv-comedy reality television parody Real Husbands of Hollywood, which was broadcast on BET. Smoove’s birth took place in Plymouth, North Carolina, and his parents were Floyd Brooks and Elizabeth Brooks.

He moved to Mount Vernon, New York, when he was three years old and lived there the rest of his life.  He spent a significant amount of time with his mother and extended maternal family in the Plymouth area, which he has stated inspired much of his pursuit of comedy and comedy style. He also spent a significant amount of time with his father.  He and his two younger brothers spent their childhood at the Levister Towers housing developments in Mount Vernon, where they still live now. When Smoove was 15 years old, his father passed away from complications related to diabetes.
