Who is Harry Shum Jr.?

Harry Shum Jr. is a Chinese-American actor, singer, dancer, and choreographer. He is best known for his starring role in the popular musical television series ‘Glee,’ in which he also choreographed several episodes. Harry, who was born in Costa Rica but reared in California, devoted a significant amount of time to activities outside of the classroom while he was a student. He was involved in both sports and the school play productions.

In the dance movie from 2004 titled “You Got Served,” Harry made his first appearance on screen performing as a dancer. After that, he appeared in a number of films as a dancer, mostly in supporting capacities, including “Stomp the Yard” and “Center Stage: Turn It Up.” When he was cast in one of the leading parts in the musical comedy–drama series ‘Glee,’ he had a significant turning point in his career in the year 2009.

In the show, he played the part of “Mike Chang,” a football player who, in later seasons, comes to realise that he also has a flair for dancing. After that, he was cast in pivotal roles in the television series “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” and the film “Revenge of the Green Dragons,” both of which are in the genre of crime drama. He has had significant roles in the production of several online programmes, including “Caper” and “Single by 30,” among others.

Harry Shum Jr. was born into a wealthy Chinese business family on April 28, 1982 in the city of Puerto Limón in the country of Costa Rica. His mother is from Hong Kong, and his father is from Guangzhou in mainland China. He was born there. His birth placed him in the position of being the youngest of the family’s three children. As he got older, Harry became fluent in Spanish. He didn’t pick up either English or Chinese until much later in life.

When Harry was six years old, his family uprooted and relocated to the city of San Francisco in the state of California. There, Harry became familiar with a way of life that was completely different from his own. Harry has admitted that, ever since he arrived in California, he has not uttered a word of Spanish, and that, during his first few years living in the United States, he struggled greatly with homesickness for Costa Rica.

After attending a number of schools in the San Luis Obispo area, Harry ended up enrolling at what is now known as the ‘Arroyo Grande High School.’ When Harry was a young boy, he was particularly enthusiastic in acting and playing football. He was not very captivated by dance. On the other hand, an occurrence that followed completely altered everything. When he was a senior in high school, a few of his classmates challenged him to try out for the dance team at the school.

In 2003, Harry appeared in an episode of the television show ‘Boston Public’ where he played a supporting role. The following year, he made his debut on the big screen in the film “You Got Served” performing as a dancer. After that, he appeared in supporting capacities on the television series Zoey 101 and Viva Laughlin, as well as in the film Stomp the Yard.

In the year 2008, he was cast in the film “Step Up 2: The Streets” in the supporting character of “Cable.” The following year, he was cast in the film “Center Stage: Turn it Up” in a role that was quite similar. In 2008, he had an appearance on the episode of “Rita Rocks” titled “Flirting with Disaster” playing the role of “Zack.” It was the most significant job he had played up to that point in his acting career, and it helped him get noticed by important industry figures.

His ability to dance was admired as well, and as a result, he received a great deal of requests for auditions. In the year 2008, he was cast in a minor part in the made-for-television musical drama film titled “The American Mall,” which was produced by MTV. The creative team behind the wildly popular “High School Musical” movie franchise was responsible for the production of this movie as well. ‘The American Mall,’ on the other hand, did not fare so well commercially.

The following year, he had guest appearances on three different episodes of the comedy-drama series ‘Greek.’The year 2009 was a significant one for Harry because it was in that year that he was chosen to play one of the main characters in the television series ‘Glee.’ The narrative of a high school glee club was told through the medium of a musical comedy–drama series that made its debut in May of 2009. Harry gave the performance of ‘Mike Chang,’ an integral part of the club’s membership. After making his debut in the fourth episode of the first season of the show, Harry became a regular part of the cast and continued to feature in subsequent episodes.

Harry continued to be involved with the show up until the very end, playing the role of Mike in a total of 76 episodes. When it finally came time to conclude the series, it had already established itself as one of the most successful modern musical shows in the history of television. In addition to receiving a number of nominations for his work in the series, Harry was also awarded a Screen Actors Guild Award  for his participation in the series alongside the other cast members.

He won Wesley Chan of ‘Wong Fu Productions’ over as a fan, and he went on to appear in a number of short films produced by the company. In the dance movie ‘Step Up 3D,’ he made an appearance in the year 2010, playing the character of ‘Cable,’ and in the same year, he appeared in the movie ‘Our Family Wedding,’ playing the role of ‘Harry.’

In addition to that, he has starred in a few online series, the most noteworthy of which was called “The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers,” in which he had roles as both a dancer and a choreographer. In the short action film titled “3 Minutes,” which was released in 2011, Harry portrayed the major part. In later years, he was cast in a pivotal part in the second season of the online series ‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy.’

Despite the fact that Harry was not selected for the squad, he was able to identify the path that he intended to take in the years to come. He began his dance training by enrolling in lessons. Following his graduation from high school in the year 2000, he enrolled at what is now known as “San Francisco State University.” His desire to pursue a career in dancing was not well received by his parents.

Harry was unwilling to give up on his goals, so he left college and relocated to Los Angeles in order to launch a career in the entertainment industry. He has never looked back. As soon as he arrived in Los Angeles, he was presented with an opportunity to work as a dancer on the comedy show Comic View, which airs on BET. After that, he triumphed in a dance competition and was awarded a spot in an early ad for the ‘iPod Nano.’ It was in 2003 when he made his first appearance on screen.
