Who is Florence Henderson?

American actress Florence Henderson lived from February 14, 1934, until November 24, 2016. She has a six-decade-long career and is best known for playing Carol Brady in the ABC sitcom The Brady Bunch. In addition to performing on stage and in films, Henderson over the years hosted a number of popular cookery and variety shows. She participated as a panellist on various game shows and appeared as a guest on a variety of scripted and unscripted (discussion and reality show) television programmes. She participated in the 2010 season of Dancing with the Stars. Henderson began her playing career on stage, appearing in shows like South Pacific at Lincoln Center and the touring Oklahoma! production.

She made her Broadway debut in the 1952 production of Wish You Were Here and later appeared in the long-running 1954 production of Fanny, in which she created the title character.  In the Oklahoma! part of the 90-minute television programme General Foods 25th Anniversary Show: A Salute to Rodgers and Hammerstein, Henderson co-starred with Gordon MacRae. Later, she made an appearance in “The Abbe and the Nymph,” a 1950s television episode of I Spy. Additionally, on October 16, 1958, she played Meg March in a CBS-TV musical version of Little Women.

Her most well-known performance was as Carol Brady in The Brady Bunch, an ABC television series that ran from 1969 until 1974. Shirley Jones, Henderson’s closest friend, had declined the part, but the following year, she agreed to play Shirley Partridge, a mother of five on the 1970–1974 television series The Partridge Family, which had a similar role. She made an appearance in “Weird Al” Yankovic’s “Amish Paradise” music video. She appeared as a memorable special guest on the improv comedy programme Whose Line Is It Anyway? in 2002, taking part in on-screen kisses with Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie.

From 1958 until 1961, Henderson and Bill Hayes performed in Oldsmobile commercials on The Patti Page Show, which Oldsmobile sponsored She performed “Don’t Let a Be-Back Get Away” in the 1959 Oldsmobile commercial musical Good News About Olds. On the Tonight Starring Jack Paar episode from January 13, 1960, she and Bill Hayes both performed musical numbers.  Henderson performed in The Girl Who Came to Supper on Broadway as well.
