Who is Fabolous?

John David Jackson, better known by his stage name Fabolous, is an American rapper who was born on November 18, 1977. He was raised in Brooklyn and initially came to public attention as a senior in high school when he gave a live performance on DJ Clue’s radio show and then on Hot 97. After signing with DJ Clue’s Desert Storm label, Jackson later agreed to a distribution agreement with major label Elektra.

Jackson rose to fame with his 2001 album Ghetto Fabolous, which featured Nate Dogg and produced the hit singles “Can’t Deny It” and “Young’s”. Street Dreams, his second album, was released in 2003 and featured the US top 10 singles “Can’t Let You Go”  and “Into You”. Born John David Jackson on November 18, 1977, Fabolous is of African-American and Dominican ancestry. He was raised in the Breevort Houses in the Brooklyn borough’s Bedford-Stuyvesant district. On September 11, 2001, Fabolous released Ghetto Fabolous, his self-titled debut album.

With almost 140,000 copies sold in its first week, it opened at number four on the Billboard 200.  Rick Rock was the producer of the album’s lead hit, “Can’t Deny It,” which incorporates a vocal by Nate Dogg that samples “Ambitionz Az a Ridah” by Tupac Shakur. It and two of the subsequent singles all peaked on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart . The Neptunes’ “Young'” and DJ Clue and Duro’s “Trade It All,” which features Jagged Edge on vocals, were the other singles that made the charts.

On March 4, 2003, Fabolous released his second album, Street Dreams. “Can’t Let You Go,” which featured Lil’ Mo and Mike Shorey on guest vocals over a Just Blaze rhythm, peaked at number one on the Rhythmic Top 40 chart and number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Tamia’s “Into You” peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100. The first song “This Is My Party,” a club anthem, and “Trade It All Pt. 2,” which also featured Diddy and Jagged Edge as it did on the Ghetto Fabolous version, were both released on Street Dreams.

On November 4, 2003, exactly seven months later, Fabolous released More Street Dreams, Pt. 2: The Mixtape, his debut official mixtape. His record company, Elektra, had released it on official record. Remixes and songs that weren’t on Street Dreams were included on the CD. This record served as a platform for his Triangle Offense, a trio made up of Joe Budden, Paul Cain, and himself. The song Fire, which was originally on Joe Budden’s self-titled first album, is actually remixed and included on the album.

Jackson went to Boys and Girls High School in Bed-Stuy after attending High School of Art & Design and City-As-School High School in Manhattan. Jackson started to pursue a career in hip hop music in his senior year of high school.Fabolous Sport was the stage name he used in the beginning of his career,[6] a reference to Ralph Lauren’s Polo Sport clothing line. Later, this was abbreviated to Fabolous. Jackson originally intended to be called “Fabulous,” but while performing a freestyle, he spelled it incorrectly and it stuck.

He was allowed to perform live rapping on the radio shows of DJ Clue, an American record producer, and Hot 97, a radio station in New York City. The Lox’s Money, Power & Respect instrumental featured raps from Fabolous and N.O.R.E., and DJ Clue later signed Fabolous to his record label, Desert Storm Records.  After that, Fabolous appeared on a number of DJ Clue mixtapes and mixtapes with Roc-A-Fella artists.

This earned Fabolous and Desert Storm a distribution deal with Elektra Records.  In a September 6, 2001, interview with Hot104.com, Fabolous said he never planned on becoming a rapper and told the website: “I was trying to make some money, ya know? I got tired of being broke. This was something where I could make some money. It just happened for me.”

In 2004, Jackson signed to Atlantic Records, after leaving Elektra, where he released Real Talk, his first and only album under Atlantic. In 2006, Jackson was let out of his contract with Atlantic and officially signed with Def Jam Recordings. Also in 2006, Jackson founded his own record label, Street Family Records. In 2007, he released From Nothin’ to Somethin’, under Def Jam.

In 2009, he released his fifth album, Loso’s Way. Throughout the years, Jackson has amassed a number of self-released mixtapes, including several instalments of his highly acclaimed There Is No Competition series and The S.O.U.L. Tape series. He released his sixth album, The Young OG Project, in
