Who is Estelle Parsons?

Estelle Margaret Parsons, an American actress, singer, and stage director, was born on November 20, 1927. Parsons became a vocalist after graduating from law school before deciding to pursue acting. In 1961, she made her theatrical debut while working for the television show Today.

Parsons began her acting career on Broadway in the 1960s before moving on to movies. She earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Blanche Barrow in Bonnie and Clyde (1967), and she was also nominated for her work in Rachel, Rachel (1968).

During the 1970s, she worked actively in television and theatre, eventually directing several Broadway shows. Her most well-known role on television was as Beverly Harris, the mother of the titular character, on Roseanne and its spinoff The Conners.

She has five Tony Award nominations (four times for Lead Actress of a Play and once for Featured Actress). The American Theatre Hall of Fame honoured Parsons in 2004. Lynn Hospital, Lynn, Massachusetts, was the birthplace of Parsons. Elinor Ingeborg , her mother, was Swedish, and Eben Parsons, her father, was English.

In Maine, she was a student at Oak Grove School for Girls. Parsons studied law at Boston University after graduating from Connecticut College in 1949, then worked as a vocalist in a band before deciding to pursue acting in the early 1950s.

Parsons appeared on the November 1 episode of The Tonight Show, telling Johnny Carson that Lemmon was her first boyfriend when they were both youngsters in the 1940s. When Parsons relocated to New York City, he worked for The Today Show as a writer, producer, and pundit.
